Hey, Ladies!

That’s what I said as I tromped through the woods yesterday morning. I sent out in search of my old friends, and before long, I found one. Then two, then many!

This time of year, I find my ladies out there where they appeared last Spring! Sometimes they even multiply! I do love those Pink Lady’s Slippers!

I’ve tried to imagine why the Lady’s Slippers are my favorite Spring flowers. I think it’s partly because I know they have a small window of bloom time. That adds to the excitement of discovering them in all their glory when I can catch them! Also, they just look amazing!

As I wandered in the forest, with three cats trailing me, I stumbled upon single blooms, pairs, and even some triplets. I found some clumps of four and even five! I began counting after I’d already seen several, but I believe I saw a good fourth-five Pink Lady’s Slippers out in our woods. We have more out back, and in the past I’ve seen a couple up above the driveway, but I didn’t search those areas today.

It was nice. These beauties aren’t visible along any beaten path—you must hike deep into the woods, push aside brambles and duck under branches to find them. I hope I never get too feeble to climb our hills, because I’ll miss them.

Every Spring, I am delighted anew. Seeing these flowers one year doesn’t make them boring the next. It just makes you anticipate them all the more!

May your day be blessed with whatever makes you smile, like the Lady’s Slippers so for me!
