Oopsie! Someone forgot about the blog hop! 🤷‍♀️

There’s always something to thank God for.

True story

Yesterday I filled the gas tanks for the generator and spent a small fortune.

As I drove out of the parking lot, I saw a person napping on a tarp in the grass. In the Walmart parking lot. This is the second time I’ve seen a person sleeping there, but the last time, he was gone when I came back.

We seem to have way too many homeless people in our small town. Most are elderly, and it breaks my heart. They push their shopping carts around town and rest on park benches.

I can’t solve their plight, but I can provide one hot meal, so I did. When I brought it to the person, I didn’t know if he’d even want it, but everyone I know liked food, so I thought it was a safe try.

Turns out it was a woman sleeping there, under her umbrella. She seemed thankful for the hot food, and did express her gratitude. Yes, it felt a little awkward, but I thought, What would I want if I were her, so I asked her her name.

Mona.

She has a name, she is a fellow human, and she has feelings. She is important to God, and somehow, she was important to me too.

I didn’t stay for long. I didn’t know what to say, because inside, I wished I could solve her problem of living out there. I felt a little guilty for leaving, but people were honking at me, and I needed to go.

You don’t always know the perfect thing to do or say, but you can do a little thing. I did it for Jesus, because He said when we do little things for others, we do it for him. But I did it for Mona too. I liked her.

I prayed with her, but didn’t leave a book. I was nervous to offer that in case she couldn’t read. Mona said thank you and dug into the food box.

I drove away happy but sad. Happy to provide a small relief on a windy day, yet sad that I couldn’t just load her up and take her home with me. Glad that this time, she was there, unlike the last time, when she or someone else had moved on.

I am not the answer for Mona. But God is. He sees and He knows.

I’m glad I got her name. She’s not just a random face. She’s Mona, and I will pray for her. I’ll look for her now, and maybe I can stop again sometime.

For now, I will leave it with God unless he shows me something else. And He will—He did speak yesterday, and I listened, so that’s a good start.
