Doesn’t it seem strange to say that Fall is on the way?
But in our neck of the woods, we have Joe Pye Weed blooming! Greg says that means six more weeks til Fall! I’d never heard that one, but I’ll take it!
I’d never noticed Joe Pye Weed until the last few year. But it blooms in late summer, along about the same time as the goldenrod and Ironweed, and they together make a lovely bouquet.
I love Summer and my gorgeous flowers, but I will admit that I am looking forward to the Fall. Fall is my best time, and that’s hard to believe since I love Spring and Summer blooms!
In the mean time, we can enjoy our last flush of garden bounties and colors! Summer is not letting go around here anytime soon, that’s for sure!
I learned something new today—Joe Pye Weed is edible. Now, to me it doesn’t look like something I’d like to dig into, but I’m tucking it away to I can try it sometime.

No blooms noticed on mine yet, but they are first year plants. I have been wanting Joe Pye Weed in the garden for years and fingers crossed, these plants will take off and do well. Oh, they are planted next to my goldenrod. Ironweed is next on my list to acquire. I try to get transplants from neighbors – we have a local plant swap every spring. I was able to acquire some coneflower last year and the blooms this year are amazing. Oh, I love fall too but need the summer’s heat to ripen my tomatoes!
Sounds like a great garden that I would love. I’d like to go down the road and help myself to some of those Indian Paintbrush!
